Why I give up with Tumblr (at least when it comes to book blogging).

Today, I logged into my Tumblr to find that I had several messages from an anonymous person telling me why they found one of my book reviews 'offensive' and went on to assume what my opinion was on a particular, controversial subject.  Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion, I feel that in this case, the anonymous coward person was completely wrong.  I am not going to reveal what that controversial subject is, I will just say that it is something that hits very close to home and that I am very hurt and angered by someone who does not know me at all making assumptions about me and how I feel.  I get why they may be offended, I really do, but maybe they should get their facts straight before jumping the gun.  Maybe if they had took the time to explain to me in a civilised way why they felt the way that they felt and, most importantly, revealed their identity, I would have privately messaged them and explained to them why I feel the way that I feel about this book.  Instead they decided to attack me anonymously - the ultimate act of cowardice.  I know, I could have turned my anonymous ask option off, but I get a lot of pleasant anon messages and didn't think that I would get any nasty ones.

This incident led me to decide that I am 100% done with Tumblr - I have just completely lost my love for Tumblr and book blogging.  The fact of the matter is, Tumblr is dangerous and seems to be breeding a new generation of dickbags.  This incident was the final nail in the coffin for me with regard to Tumblr.  I have noticed that it has become a very different place from the place I joined 4-ish years ago.  No one can say anything without being attacked by others (anonymously usually), no one is allowed to disagree with others opinions and, frankly, a lot of the people on there are arrogant, self-righteous assholes.  Everything MUST be politically correct at all times and even when someone posts something in support of, say, gay marriage, they are told they are wrong or that they should think differently - and that's by others who support the same thing!  All of these factors, combined with the fact that I am extremely busy at the moment with life and uni etc, has lead me to no longer be able to want to find the time to sit down and blog.

People may think I am overreacting, but I really don't care.  I work on the 'treat others how you wish to be treated' and 'see things from other point of view' philosophies and I wish others would do the same.

Maybe I'll post reviews here, who knows.  But for now it's goodbye to book blogging and a (hopefully) happy, Tumblr-free existence! :)

Edit: I managed to figure out how to connect Blogger with GR so if I post a review on GR, it will automatically upload here :)

  1. I find it so sad that you have given up on Tumblr! While it may be a home of douchebags, so is the internet. The Tumblr I know and love has been nothing if not welcoming of any kind of civil rights (unless you are against them) sprinkled with some fashion and sexy pictures. It could be because your blog had a specific theme that it attracted people with obviously way too much time on their hands. All around, I am sorry this happened to you.
